Torbanlea State School Tuckshop

Torbanlea State School is proud to offer a school Tuckshop that supports the wellbeing of our students and contributes positively to our school community. We would like to share some important information about the role of tuckshops in Queensland state schools and how our service operates.  Please see our Tuckshop Menu on the quicklinks on the right hand side of this page.

During Term 1 2026 our P&C Tuckshop will be running Meal Deals as we move our Tuckshop to its new space.  From Term 2 onwards we will run our normal full school Tuckshop menu.

Purpose of School Tuckshops in Queensland State Schools

In Queensland state education, school tuckshops play an important role in:

  • Supporting student wellbeing by providing access to nutritious, affordable food choices during the school day.
  • Promoting healthy eating habits in line with the Department of Education’s Smart Choices – Healthy Food and Drink Supply Strategy.
  • Enhancing school community engagement, often operated with the valued assistance of volunteers and P&C Associations.
  • Contributing funds back into the school, with profits commonly used to support student resources, facilities and learning programs.

Nutritious Food Choices & Compliance With Tuckshop Guidelines

Our tuckshop follows the Smart Choices guidelines, which classify foods into “Green”, “Amber”, and “Red” categories.

  • Green foods (best choices) form the core of our menu — such as fresh fruit, salads, wholegrains, and dairy options.
  • Amber foods are offered in moderation and selected carefully to ensure they meet strict portion and nutrition standards.
  • Red foods are not sold during school hours, as per Queensland school requirements.

This means the food we sell is nutritious, age‑appropriate, and aligned with national health recommendations. Families can feel confident that students are accessing food that supports learning, energy, and healthy development.

Additional Information for Families

  • Allergy Awareness: We take allergies and dietary needs seriously. If your child has specific dietary restrictions, please inform the school so we can support safe food practices.
  • Volunteers Welcome: Our tuckshop thrives with the support of parent and community volunteers. Even an hour of help makes a big difference and is greatly appreciated.
  • Online Ordering (if applicable): If our tuckshop uses an online ordering system, this helps reduce cash handling and ensures orders are placed accurately and efficiently.
  • Teaching Healthy Habits: Choosing tuckshop food together with your child can be a great opportunity to talk about balanced choices and healthy eating.

Thank You

We appreciate your ongoing support for our tuckshop. Together, we can continue promoting healthy lifestyles and creating a positive food environment for all students at Torbanlea State School.

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please contact the school office or our Tuckshop Coordinator through our P&C.
